Snow Globes

This was an art project we attempted using shaving cream and paint. We learnt some tricks to make it look more like the marble background we were going for towards the end of the project. We then wrote about our traditions that our families do during Winter/Christmas break. Students then recorded their partner reading their traditions using an iPad. We then used the app Aurasma (Now called HP Reveal) to be able to scan our snow globes to view the video of ourselves reading our traditions. If you would like to view the video just download the free app Aurasma, create an account and scan the picture of the snow globe.

Soil Erosion Prevention Design Process

Last week Mme Hales-Massé and I gave our grade 3 and 4 students a design challenge to help prevent soil erosion using recycled materials and other household items. We were very impressed to see some of the ideas our students came up with.

Terry Fox Walk 2017

Today we had our Terry Fox assembly followed by a lovely stroll through Transcona. We walked roughly 2 km walking past Wayoata School where Terry attended school for kindergarten and grade 1. Some students were rather tired by the time we got back to school. They were shocked to realize that Terry did that 20 times more in one day. "Terry was a great guy!" - Easton G. "Terry ran the whole way, he didn't walk." - Easton M. "Terry's dream still lives on." - Zoey "I wonder how Terry felt after doing 20X more than us?" - Maia "Terry is a true Canadian hero!" - Isabelle "Terry ran 3339 miles!" - Jet

Elections Canada

This morning we had a presentation from Elections Manitoba that taught us about our Canadian Government. Stephanie from Elections Manitoba explained to the students the 3 levels of government and their responsibilities. We played a quick game and then held a mock election. We had three new parties who had to present how they would spend $10000 to improve EMU. The Crew 7 party, Education party and the School party. It was a close race but Crew 7 came out as our representative.

3rd Annual Transcona Community Cleanup

Today we took part in the Transcona Community Cleanup. Crew 206's job was to clean up Memorial Circle Park. Students were given a t-shirt which they get to keep and a glove to handle the garbage. The students did a great job making sure no piece of garbage was left behind and were very cautious when coming across anything they weren't sure about. I was also very proud of my students as they found a few poppies laying in the grass which they returned to the Cenotaph located at the center of the park honouring Transcona's fallen soldiers.
