Math-A-Palooza Halloween Style

Today was an exciting day for Crew 206. We started our math activities at 10am inviting our grade one reading buddies from Mme Heieie's class to play math games we created. Shortly after that we started some math murals that we are hoping to finish in the next couple days. After lunch the students had a visiting teacher come read to them. We ended Math-A-Palooza by doing a Smarties estimation and graphing activity.

Qui suis je...

We've been working very hard on our French writing and reading these past few weeks. We did our own "Guess Who?" by writing 10 hints about ourselves in French and then recorded ourselves using Audioboom. We then drew ourselves and created a QR code that we added to our drawing. When you scan the QR code you will hear us reading.

Polar Bear Claymation

This was a project that we started shortly after spring break. First we read and watched some videos about the affects of Global Warming on polar bears. We then wrote a script together as a whole group activity followed by a lot of editing and changes. Once we had a finalized our script we began to come up with ideas for scenes for our claymation (stop motion animation with clay). Students then created animals and surrounding objects using clay. We then began to take pictures (lots of pictures) slowly moving or adding to objects little bits at a time. When all the pictures were taken they were placed in Windows Movie Maker and the pictures were played in succession for 0.1 seconds. Finally students were chosen to narrate the story using Audacity to record their part.

Festival Activities at Harbourview

Can't remember the last time I did voyageur activities outside in February and took off so many layers. Students got to go snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating, tobogganing, etc. It turned out to be a great day and once again I must say I've got an amazing class. We came back a little tired and wet but there were smiles all around. Thank you to all the parent volunteers and teachers that planned the activities it was a blast.

"I Love to Read" Book Trailers

This is an activity that my students from last year really enjoyed so we decided to do it again. Students wrote out a script to encourage others to read one of their favorite books. Once they completed their script they used Animoto to create their video. We also posted them here and for those who like you could come by our bulletin board outside the classroom and check out our book covers that students designed. If you scan the picture using the Aurasma app you will get a pretty cool surprise. Enjoy!
